REDWAVE – Recycling & Waste Treatment Solutions

REDWAVE, a division of BT-Wolfgang Binder GmbH, delivers profitable solutions in the recycling and waste industry. It supplies groundbreaking and economic sorting plants for recyclables as well as turnkey waste treatment plants. Furthermore, REDWAVE is a leading manufacturer of sensor-based sorting machines with a sturdy industrial design which achieves high performance and quality recovery of materials. REDWAVE does not stop at the sensor level but provides the complete machine taking the responsibility for the sorting result. The design as well as the product itself stand for high-end technology with state-of-the-art solutions.

REDWAVE operates worldwide and headquartered in Austria. It maintains branch offices in Germany, China, Singapore and the US.

Role in the Project

REDWAVE is continuously striving to find new sorting solutions to recover materials that are currently not being recycled. At present, PU waste, such as foams from end-of-live mattresses and furniture are mostly either incinerated or landfilled. To close the loop for polyurethanes by using secondary raw materials in the production of new PU foams, end-of-life material has to be retrieved from the waste stream in both high quantity and quality. REDWAVE is contributing to PUReSmart by finding an automated sorting solution that will not only recover PU foams from existing waste streams but will also separate the foams into sub-groups depending on their chemical composition. These will then be used as input fraction for the following chemical recycling processes. This not only decreases the demand for primary raw materials, but also minimizes the volumes being landfilled.

Katharina Ander

With an engineering background and a broad knowledge of the recycling industry, Katharina Ander joined the R&D team of REDWAVE in early 2019. As expert in NIR-based sorting she is responsible for sorting solutions in plastics, paper, MSW recycling and many more.

Katharina Ander received her bachelor’s degree in physics at the University of Leipzig, Germany in 2012 and graduated from engineering school at TU Bergakademie Freiberg, Germany in 2016.

Franz Siegl

As head of R&D at REDWAVE Franz Siegl is looking back at 17 years of experience in the field of optical sorting. After gaining profound practical knowledge in process engineering and technical service for waste treatment and recycling plants, he joined REDWAVE in 2008. Under his leadership, sorting systems using color, NIR and XRF sensors are continuously being improved, combined in multiple ways and new technologies tested to always be ahead of time in finding solutions for recycling and to bolster the company’s leading position.
